Graham Crowden (30.11.1922 - 19.10.2010) is remembered by us as playing the character Mr.Gobbling, the sculptor, in the episode "The Enchanted King" (which happens to be my favourite episode from the "Cedric" series.)
He appeared in many films and TV series too numerous to name but here are a few : Films : The Ruling Class 1972 as Kelso Truscott. The Amazing Mr. Blunden 1972 as Mr. Clutterbuck. O, Lucky man 1973 as various characters. Jabberwocky 1977 as fanatics leader. The Company of Wolves 1984 as old priest. A Handful of Dust 1988 as Mr Graceful.
TV series : Adventures of Black Beauty 1973 as Mr Crevace. Raffles 1977 as Dr Sonderberg. A Very Peculiar Practice 1986 - 1988 as Dr Jock McCannon. Waiting for God 1990 - 1994 as Herbert. Midsomer Murders 2002 episode "Ring Out Your Dead" Foyles War 2008 as Sir John Sackville (Final TV appearance)
His daughter Sarah Crowden followed him into the acting profession.

A fabulous and wonderfully eccentric actor. Legendary in A Very Peculiar Practice.

As with many of his co stars Geoffrey had filmed with Graham previously. Always seemed away with the fairies, but nevertheless great to watch. Would have made a good proffessor in the Harry Potter franchise I think. It's funny that you like this episode the best skully, as Geoffrey hated it! He was not happy they had turned to sapstick to get laughs in the second series. THAT Geoffrey said was NOT Catweazle lol. Talking about series two, have you read the item about Groomes lawnmower in the Pips and Crops section? Great that it's still being used thanks to the club.

There's an episode of Callan entitled A Village Called 'G' which guest star's Graham as a struck off Doctor called Groper.!! (no guesses for what he may of been struck off for) A rather slimey camp character with a somewhat posh Edinburgh dialect well suited for the part. A fantastic episode which Graham played to a T.

Were they all aware at the cricket club that Peter Butterworth actually grasped that mower handle?

I was going to mention that Callan appearance but thought no-one here would be aware of it. Nice to be proven wrong.

Well the person I conversed with and who worked at the same place as I, certainly knew Peter's bum had been on the seat, so I assumed he would have let the others know (but if they all all youngsters there, they will say Peter Who?? How sad is that!!!) Elspet told me that Peter would have loved to have come to the get togethers with her Moray and especially Geoffrey. Such a shame he died so early, wonderful character actor - "Show us yer knickers!" Who remembers where that phrase comes from? lol
