I watched both series again on TPTV. I must admit that I found the last episodes of each series (especially series 1) quite moving. The echo when Carrot asks Catweazle if he'll come back was a nice touch which added to the poignancy, considering this effect had not been used previously in this series. With series 2, they did something different again by using the melancholy music over the end credits. It's juxtaposition with the scenes of Catweazle finally flying made for bittersweet viewing, knowing that Catweazle was off again, on another adventure.
I realise that it's make believe but I often wonder how close Carrot would have been to Kings Farthing. Was the castle he was imprisoned by Lord Collingford's ancestors the same one he escaped from in Series 1 for example? Catweazle never mentioned that he'd been there (1970s) before which I thought a little strange, surely he would have said? Mayhap.
I agree that Catweazle is not slapstick and was disappointed to read elsewhere on the forum that there is a "reboot", call it what you will. I am never a fan of these ventures, if you're going to do something like that then I think you should have the good grace to call it something different.
I shall miss seeing this on TPTV but look forward to spotting the many actors in different films.

Every time I watch Catweazle, I always ask questions and I suppose that means the experience of his adventures seem real, if you get my drift. What brings it closer to home though and not so remote and distant is listening to the commentaries alongside some of the episodes featuring the surviving (at that time) cast and crew on the five disc box set. It's thoroughly recommended.
