A shop in the Netherlands - no, not the grow shops called Catweazle, selling cannabis - has a quite innocent garden plant on sale, called Catweazle. The advertisement says: "A beautiful children's series from the 1970s in which we followed the adventures of the eccentric wizard Catweazle, who ends up in the 20th century due to a failed spell from the 11th century. The green, hairy and tangled flower of this allium is reminiscent of the adorable magician's hairstyle. Excellent cut flower and decorative in the border." Please see www.nijssentuin.nl/allium/5902632-13493-allium-ampeloprasum-catweazle-3211.html (And no, I'm not in any way connected to this firm. It just happens to be an occasional find on the internet.)

It's remarkable how, more than fifty years after it was made, Catweazle is still having a cultural impact around the world! Great find, Martinus.

I love it too! Wow! I wonder though whether the cultural penetration and longevity is greater in the Netherlands than anywhere else? I conjecture that it is

Also there appears to be a succulent, called Agave Titanota 'Red Catweazle' (sometimes spelled Catweezle). You'll easily find it on the internet, e.g. www.sunnyplants.com/nl/shop/agave-titanota-red-catweazle-planten. The funny thing is that most Red Catweazles offered on the internet are not red at all! Is there any Weazler botanist in the house?

Is there any Weazler botanist in the house? Not me. Anything I touch in the garden... dies...

Nothing works? So sorry to hear that. Mayhap you should try another spell.

Plants in my care aren't necessarily doomed, and I'm reasonably keen without being anything like expert I'm possibly sufficiently interested to look at these, assuming that they're spring plantings though, might have to wait six months for me to embark

I didn't realise that he had such a 'back story'! Interesting how the statue looks like an early 17th century dandy in Ep.3, although I know that early moderns or earlier didn't necessarily 'correct' for age of their reference. I like the research, and the back story is pretty deep!
