Hi there, I am a big Catweazle fan from germany. Unfortunately, my English is not good enough to watch original Catweazle without subtitles. The german voice over is actually pretty well done, but I tend to prefer the original.... I've bought The DVDs already twice ('normal' DVD version with both seasons separately available and the all-in-one 'remastered Collectors Edition'), but there are no English subs. Before buying the UK-version I would like to ask you fellow magicians, if you know, if there are English subtitles included.
Amazon doesn't know this :-( OR- does anybody maybe have extracted versions of the subtitles? (SRT-files or similar) That would work for me like a charm!!

Hi Magicbeard!
The UK DVDs do not have subtitles, unfortunately.
There are whispers of a Blu-ray release being on the way, so it may be advisable for you to wait. (There may not be subtitles on the set, but until it is issued we don't know that for sure.)
As for SRT files, I've not been able to find any in English, I'm afraid.
Best wishes,
Alan

Hello magicbeard! There are no English subtitles available anywhere, but perhaps someone could make some by using a Mac computer in voice input mode, than playing the episodes on the Mac or within range of he microphone.
Catweazle speaks an older form of English, which might be from the 15th-16th Century. He's from the 11th Century, but if he spoke 11th Century English then no one would understand him unless they'd studied 11th Century English!
I think the solution to your problem may be to watch lots of classic British TV series, some of which will have subtitles. I learnt to speak German very well from watching German TV, but without subtitles.

magic beard, I've now found out that there are subtitles available for Catweazle on Britbox! This streaming service isn't currently available in Germany, but I managed to subscribe to YouTV.de from the UK, so I'm sure you can find a way round the Britbox restriction as well. If not, perhaps someone could find a way to copy or download the subtitles for you.

I downloaded Catweazle from Britbox some time ago and created my own Bluray edition of the HD versions. They're not good enough to be called restored and I would almost guarantee that should Network ever do an official Bluray they will do a lot of work on them beforehand to improve them.
The Streamfab or Anystream programs will both enable you to download Britbox content via Amazon Prime Video Channels and you can choose to include the subtitles so they pop up using the subtitle button on your finished disc (doesn't seem to work with dvd though) or you can download the subs separately.
Neither program is cheap and if its only Catweazle you want then you might want to wait but the best thing about Britbox is it offers HD versions of lots of series that only got dvd releases and unedited versions of stuff like Grange Hill which has music cuts on the dvds
