This section of the Fan Club Forum is our way of paying tribute to a remarkable man. He'd have been remarkable if Catweazle was his single writing credit, but of course it was merely the acorn from which his career behind the camera grew fron (don't forget, he'd been an actor for some years before he caught the writing bug, appearing in series such as Hancock, Knight Errant, Out of the Unknown and Strange Report).
'Kip' has a CV that most television writers would love to be their own. His shows were hits more often than not, and each has its devoted followers, as does he.
Here, we invite Catweazle fans - and those of Richard and his body of work - to discuss series such as:
- The Adventures of Black Beauty
- The Ghosts of Motley Hall
- The Boy from Space (Look and Read)
- The Famous Five (1978 and 1995-7)
- Dr Snuggles
- Smuggler
- Dick Turpin
- Adventurer (sequel to Smuggler)
- Robin of Sherwood
- The Borrowers
- The Scarlet Pimpernel (2001)
...all of which he either wrote for or created and wrote for... among many others.
Have fun!

Knight errant. A dvd is available. It only has 2 episodes on it. Although 75 episodes were made, only two still exist; this set presents these remaining two episodes from Knight Errant '59 and Knight Errant Limited. The 2 episodes in the dvd are from series 1 episode 5' The golden opportunity' from 1959 starring Richard 'Kip' Carpenter ... and from series 3 episode 16 'The joker' from 1961 (Kip doesn't appear in this episode) Obtainable from Amazon UK

I'm going to look up the Ghosts of Motley Hall - thank you (very belatedly!) for the list Alan The DVD is a little expensive, and the paperback doubly so - tossing up which option to go with. Suggestions and thoughts will be gratefully accepted

It's a pity you didn't find the forum a little earlier, as Network DVDs like Catweazle and The Ghosts of Motley Hall could be got relatively cheaply (even for importers like yourself), but the Network company collapsed midway through 2023 and many of their titles became scarce and commanded a high price afterwards.
The Ghosts of Motley Hall is definitely worth seeking out though. In some ways similar to the BBC's recent Ghosts series, and very well cast.

The Ghosts of Motley Hall was another Kip Carpenter / Quentin Lawrence programme

I've ordered the book - reasonably pleased with the price, and just happy that it was available (hopped on to my usually dormant Amazon.uk account and exported it to myself! ). You've really whetted my appetite now for the DVD I will say, but I'll give the book a week or two to arrive before thinking about buying the DVD Brilliant!

Regarding the DVD, it was issued by Network who went under midway through 2023. The discs that remain with retailers like Amazon won't get replenished, so I wouldn't wait for too long before ordering if you are keen to have it.
You might notice that there are two editions of The Ghosts of Motley Hall that Network released. These are identical in terms of disc content. The main difference is that the one with the photographic cover (as opposed to the bluey artwork one) is in a double-width DVD case and the other (later) one is in a single-width case.

It's quite a different style to Catweazle, shot on videotape, but it's very enjoyable and has a good cast. Feel free to start a new thread on The Ghosts of Motley Hall, in this forum area, when you come to share your thoughts.

I'll do that! I was so pleased that I was able to find precisely one copy of the DVD set that was reasonably priced - as opposed to none!
