Greetings all, Whilst one might wait an eternity for Network to release a restored HD/BluRay version, I was wondering which box set may be the best version available at the mo? There’s a ‘remastered’ German print for around £18 on eBay but not sure if it’s truly remastered and whether the soundtrack has an English option. Is the current Network box set a better quality than the latest prints airing on TPTV at the mo? Thank you, Stephen M.

I think that the Network version of the 2 series in its 5 dvd set is the best, at the moment.
Although Amazon doesn't have any copies at the moment! (there is a private seller that is selling a copy of it but at a very expensive price.. Wouldn't bother with that) Better wait until Amazon do or grab a copy from ebay if new.
What sayest others?.....

Thanks for the question, Stephen, and for mentioning the German set.
The Network prints are marginally better than those aired by TPTV, but I'd be the first to say the series needs a ground-up restoration for Blu-ray. I've never imported any DVD sets from overseas, but I'd be intrigued to hear about them if anyone has them and can comment upon them.

Thanks Chas & Alan.....hmmm, might be a good thing if Amazon are out of stock......may gee up Network to realize they’d be onto a good thing by restoring the prints. Time will tell, I’spose.

I've just received a message from Network... It reads...
We are manufacturing more, and hope to have them in stock very soon
We currently have no plans to release this on BluRay
Many thanks
Joe.

Sadly the last line of their message chimes with what I was told at a recent event by a friend who is on their staff. It is heartening though that they are restocking the DVD set. I've done a mad thing and ordered the German set as it looks a nice collectible in its own right, so I will report back as to the quality.

Network should be re-stocking us (the club's shop) in January 2020. I have just sold our last ones. Don't pay the ridiculous prices that people are asking for. I saw on box set selling for £89.95!!!!! Ridiculous. A few weeks wait will be worth it.

Absolutely, Carol.
I saw that.. It was a private seller on Amazon.. Ridiculous price.
As Carol says, be patient and wait a little while and then you can purchase the 5 dvd set, which includes both series and lots of extras, direct from the club shop.
Look back in January and keep an eye out for it!

I've received the German set, which appears to use the same, remastered prints that Network used (ad break bumpers are indeed present, as they are on the Network set). Obviously, there's a German dub in addition to the English audio, and optional German subtitles. It is very easy, with either rudimentary German or pure guesswork, to select English language and subtitles off. As a budget option, it does the job very nicely and the box artwork is lovely.
However, the UK set from Network sports a really nice booklet and for that and reasons of straightforward navigation is really the one to go for. Unless you're desperate for the German dubbed soundtrack!

(Taking inflation into account, a lot less!!)

Indeed. The German set cost me about £18 delivered. That's about 69p per episode - and sent all the way from Germany! If I'd suggested in the 80s that'd be possible I'd have been laughed at.

It does seem odd that Network have run out- especially as I imagine the demand is very high what with the TPTV screenings and Christmas. Strange too that they are not offering a streaming service. Not that I would bother with it one jot, but there is a demand out there for non-physical product - and of course it can act as a default if indeed they run out of DVDs!
