Just re-watching the entire series again and wondered where Duck Halt was and whether it still exists. Interesting to see how the locations look today. Is Castle Saburac still standing? Also, has the film idea been permanently shelved? Cheers.

Hi Wyllough and welcome to the forum. Duck Halt wasn't a real railway station: it was an outbuilding on the Brickendonbury Estate. I understand that its physical location has been pinpointed and it's been established that the building has been demolished. Castle Saburac no longer stands, either. It was near the East Clandon location of the farm. Fortunately there are several other filming locations still standing and easy to view, including the row of shops seen in the first series (Bishopsmead Parade, East Horsley). It's worth mentioning though that the Brickendonbury locations from Series 2 are private property. The film? Someone better informed than me will hopefully be able to answer.

Thanks for that, Allan. Always interesting. If I ever visit the UK again I'll make sure to visit the sites. Pity about the film. I can picture Mackenzie Crook as Catweazle.

I must admit I struggle to picture anyone other than Geoffrey as Catweazle. I'm sure that if there is a film they'll pick someone good for it, but Geoffrey made that part completely his own and whoever took it on would have very big shoes to fill.

Agreed; big shoes for anyone else to fill. I think I'd prefer a TV series to a film if anything new ever eventuates. It's also hard to imagine anything new being so enjoyable. By the way, that youtube clip of Geoffrey unveiling his statue is beautiful.

Do you have a link to the unveiling, please? I was there on the day.

Ah, it's by my mate Vince! I should have known! In fact, I probably did - as since I'm not in the film and I don't like being on the wrong side of cameras, I probably made sure I was behind him all the time!

Loving watching again on Talking Pictures, even though I have the DVD set! In Duck Halt, where is the railway tunnel?

Hi and welcome to the forum..
The Railway Tunnel is about a mile north of Hertford North railway station.. It's near an area called Great MoleWood..
You can't get to it now though, I've tried!.. It's security fenced off.
Enjoy the forum and feel free to contribute and ask.. and if you so wish, introduce yourself in the relevant thread
All the best, Chas.

Duck Halt was indeed a made up railway station on the estate, but it has not been demolished as it was part of the building. there is a square of buildings and if you look very carefully you can see where they had to brick the area up, where they had built it. Kip actually wanted Catweazle to use a real disused signal box that was nearby, he had the vision of Catweazle messing about with all the levers etc. that were in there. But, sadly as with most of the second series they didn't follow his advice, but did their own thing!! Caste Saburac was a real water tower BUT it was deemed unsafe, so it was pulled down and reconstructed in the same spot. Obviously the inside shots were filmed in the studio.

I think it used as offices now. You would not see or know it from any of the other buildings around the quadrangle there.

I wonder how much detailed exterior work was done to change the look of the building. Obviously the canopy, station sign, wooden platform, rail sleepers on the 'trackbed', but I would love to see a current view. I am aware of the roof of another building appearing in certain shots of Duck Halt. Have tried to fly around on Google Earth but cannot get enough orientation on the actual building. Also, are duck halt interior shots made at Halliford Studios, or inside the location building?

Everything was filmed on location, inside and out

Halliford Studios was only used in Series 1. All of Series 2 was filmed within the confines of Brickendonbury (interiors and exteriors), with a handful of trips out to local villages.

They didn't have to change or alter the building for duck halt, they had to take the bricks of the building there out and then brick it up again. I have tried to get a photo from a satellite image, but can't get to it this way.

I would love to know exactly what you mean in relation to how it is now. I really must get down there at some point

I would love to know exactly what you mean in relation to how it is now. I really must get down there at some point Kings Farthing, the house that was called in series 2 was filmed at Brickendonbury. It is now owned by a company and you wouldn't be able to go there without permission.

Yes, and it has got worse, because things have gone on there that may even make it unlikely to get in there. It is now got security cameras every where instead of the security guards. I think we could still get in as a group if we ask the right person. This is one of the reasons I have removed the Catweazle bust from there. It will accompany the club to it's events which means more people are likely to be able to see it.
