Hello fellow Weazlers.
My name is Chas and I live in Hertfordshire, quite near to where the second series of Catweazle was filmed.
I was born in Kent in 1961 and at the age of 8, something magical happened..
I remember the hoo-har about the moon misson and the 'Eagle has landed' and it seemed to be on the tele for ages.. But that wasn't what was magical for me.
About 6 months later Catweazle had landed on our black and white PYE... and it was magic. I, like a lot of my school friends dreaded Sunday because that meant bath and school the next day, but it was softened by the excitement that Catweazle was on..and the next day at school we would comment on the previous days enjoyment of watching.
I've never grown out of Catweazle.. It's timeless!.. and that is a testiment to the brilliant writing from Richard Carpenter and acting from Geoffrey Bayldon and others on the series.
Tis Magic!

Hello all! Newbie Stephen here from London but now residing in Manchester via a longish stint in Wales. Watched CATWEAZLE aged 11 when it first aired in 1970 and am 11 years old once again via the re-run on TalkingPicturesTV. I had the pleasure of working with and sharing a dressing room with Robin Davies at Northampton Rep in 1984. In 2010, I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing and I believe I contacted this club for a forwarding address to be able to pass my condolences to his wife and family. Thank you for that, once again. It’s been a while...... Regarding a restoraction of the series in HD, I contacted Network over the weekend and received this reply today : “Hi Stephen, it's not on our schedule at the moment but it may be something that we consider for the future.” Well, let’s hope so....

Hello Steven,
Good to have you on board brother! How lovely for you to have got that close to Robin. He was such a lovely and humble man. It is a tragedy that he left us at such an early age. He will live on though with all Weazlers.

Hi
I have just joined the fan club as of this week and was delighted with the gifts received on receiving my membership. Despite being 18 years old when Catweazle started I have always regarded it as one of my favourite programmes ever. This is probably because it appeals to all ages, which cannot be said of many TV shows. I am from Leeds, which was Geoffrey Bayldon's birthplace, although I don't know exactly where in Leeds. Also I don't know if it is allowed to mention where his resting place is, as I travel quite a lot, and would like to pay my respects if I was ever in the area. Have just finished watching series 1 and it was quite sad as Catweazle returned to his own time leaving Carrot, looking almost heartbroken, as his friend left. Looking forward to Series 2 on Talking Pictures TV, although some think it was not as good as the first, it was still a quality programme. I have also bought the Tis Magic book, which I am halfway through at present. A good read to compare other people's opinions with mine, although a few of my relatives and friends look bemused when I tell them. Finally, a word of thanks to all those who established and run the forum and fan club. Too many things these days are thrown on the scrapheap far too soon and Catweazle brings back so many happy memories of the 70's, which were in my opinion, the best decade of my life.

Hi and welcome along! Also welcome to the fan club. Thanks for buying the Tis Magic book - I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. It was a pleasure to put it together and have so many talented people writing for it. It's great that it's finally out there in the big wide world and it's lovely to know it's being read and enjoyed. Regarding Geoffrey's resting place, hopefully Carol can help you, but I imagine it's something best not revealed in a public forum. I don't actually know the location myself. Best wishes, Alan

Hello there. As mentioned on my other post on the forum, I found this place from re-searching the series following the broadcast of the episodes on TPTV. I have enjoyed looking at the site and learning about all things Catweazle. BTW, have your marketing bods thought of producing a T shirt emblazoned with the slogan "Catweazle says Mayhap" in the style of Frankie Goes To Hollywood and their "Frankie Says Relax" t shirt? I'd buy one Thanks for accepting me on your forum.

Hi Will be going to Epsom shortly for a family christening so I am planning to take a trip to Geoffrey's resting place whilst I am down there. I am already missing watching the re-run of the series on Talking Pictures even though it only ended last weekend. Next job is to buy both series on DVD so I can watch whenever.
After many strange looks from my wife when watching I finally got her to sit down and watch a couple of episodes. She said eventually, I see what you mean, it's not just a show for kids. Looks like I may have added another fan to the group. Have also added my car sticker recently which gets either looks of total mystification although I did have a thumbs up for a motorist behind me yesterday and someone also commented as I got out of the car. Quite funny really as all he said was Salmay Dalmay Adonay and just kept on walking as he looked back at me. There was no reply I could give just a knowing grin between two strangers which says it all really.
Thanks for all your good work and hopefully the club will keep growing.
Richard

Started watching the series on Talking Pictures a few weeks ago, now I try to see every episode. I like this show, offers half an hour of easy viewing with simple characters and some insights of a bygone era. I know little about the main actor Geoffrey Blaydon but from having watched so far couldn't imagine anyone else in the role. It's a good watch for thirty minutes although the series was produced before my time although can remember Worzel Gummidge. For some reason always thought the series were related or similar but having watched Catweazle regularly now for a few weeks can see that isn't really the case.
I would like to have met Mr Blaydon at some stage up until now but sadly that cannot be possible. Would have talked about the series, his memories and best and worst parts of it. Hope to contribute some more soon and will keep tuning in weekdays at 5pm when aired. Didn't realise there was a Catweazle fan message board but upon discovery just felt a requirement to sign up and join in.

Hi All,
Although I have viewed this forum many times, I have today bitten the bullet and joined properly. I'm Mark and I was born after Catweazle was originally shown and caught it in the early 80's however my parents were fans so I'd always hear about it. I am a huge fan of British TV of this period and love the look of these shows when they could afford the location filming on 16mm. Indeed Catweazle and later Worzel Gummidge really made me yearn for the easy life of the countryside (or at least how it's depicted on TV), but alas not. One of my favourite pastimes is visiting locations of shows such as this and have very much enjoyed the rural drives around East Clandon. It's very much the same as 50 years ago, thankfuly. I'm also a big fan of library music. Unfortunately Catweazle is underserved by what's out there, so if anyone has any idea where I can obtian some of the incidental music in the programme by Raymond Jones, please let me know.
Anyway, thanks for having me thy brothers and sisters!

Hi I have just found and joined this Catweazle fan club, I was eight in November 1969 when Catweazle appeared on our black and white tv in 1970, all of a sudden Sunday’s weren’t so gloomy anymore and I like a lot of my friends couldn’t wait to get to school Monday mornings to talk about last nights episode of Catweazle. This year a chance conversation with my brother-in-law brought up Catweazle and with one thing leading to another I found the Catweazle episodes on YouTube so I’m working my way through them and enjoying them a lot, I don’t really remember them from fifty years ago however some parts rekindle memories. I found the end of the first series very touching when Catweazle returns to his own time and leaves Carrot by the riverbank, I thought it left it open for Catweazle’s return for more adventures with Carrot but ‘twas no ment to be for them to continue as brothers in majic. Anybody know why Carrot wasn’t in the second series?

Hi, and welcome to the forum! Good that you've joined the fan club - I hope you're pleased with your member's pack. Carol does such a nice job with them. The reason that Carrot didn't return was down to the bigwigs at LWI who commissioned and made the series: they wanted a more 'international-friendly' setting, which necessitated a more 'typically English' setting and cast, the idea being that this would make it more saleable to the big markets like the USA. Who of course didn't buy it! A shame as while the second series has some nice moments, it is a real shame we didn't see any more of Carrot, Mr Bennet and Sam, all of whom were terrific. By the way, if you're interested in learning more about the series and reading the memories of a variety of different fans, there's a book that I edited available on Amazon - Tis Magic, Our Memories of Catweazle - sales of which benefit the fan club.
